Happy Friday, fellow nerds! Is it just me, or has the crazy time warp that happens around the holidays 🎄 struck again? This last week seems to have just flown by, and it’s time for another GreenGut Weekly Find.
This week, it’s all about vegan cheese. 🧀 The term still strikes terror into the hearts of many who are trying to give up dairy—but it shouldn’t. Dairy-free cheese is undergoing a delicious transformation, thanks largely to the work of companies like Treeline.
Here’s how they’re doing it.
An Artisanal Approach to Dairy-Free Cheese
Through their line of products, Treeline is elevating vegan cheese from a substitute for dairy to an artisanal product deserving of a gourmet label. It’s a lineup that would be right at home on any chartreuserie board or in a breakfast buffet:
Soft French-style cheese
Aged hard cheese
Cream cheese 🥯
Each category offers multiple flavors (including strawberry cream cheese for fruit lovers!) and is made with probiotic L. acidophilus cultures to provide the “tang” that makes cheese…well, cheese. 😋
Another bonus? Simple, straightforward ingredients. No oil, no thickeners, no additives. (The only exception is the strawberry cream cheese, which includes around 2 grams of added sugar per serving in the form of cane sugar.)
Founder Michael Schwartz and CEO Justin Lambeth are seeking to expand the business and continue providing delicious products as demand for plant-based alternatives grows.
Answering the Call for Sustainability
Cashews—the base for all of Teeeline’s cheeses—sometimes get a bad rap in the vegan cheese space, but the company is committed to making sure the nuts they use are ethically sourced. 👍🏻
This fits right in with the Treeline philosophy of being responsible and sustainable in all they do. In addition to ethical sourcing, the company also donates to charities that rescue and help homeless, special-needs and factory farm animals. 🐮 🐷 🐔 🐶 🐱

On the Rise in the Cheese Sector 🚀
The global vegan cheese market is projected to grow at a compound annual rate of 8.91% over the next five years, hitting a total value of $4.578 billion by 2025—and Treeline has been cited as one of the brands “gaining traction” in the vegan space. 📈 They’ve also been pegged as one of the “top central participants” in the vegan cheese and processed cheese market.
The nice thing is, of course, the company’s products are far removed from the realm of processed cheese. Treeline is bringing flavor, health and ethics together in a unique combination available online and at stores 🛒 across the U.S., including Whole Foods, Kroger, Wegmans, Hannaford and Sprouts.
Not going to lie — I love this company. I first discovered their products at my local co-op and can’t say enough good about the flavor and texture. 🤤 (And this is in no way a sponsored post. I’m just a huge fan nerding out about alt dairy!)
Their basic, no-frills approach is very similar to an aged dairy cheese, which is much needed in the vegan cheese space, especially for those who are lactose intolerant or want to enjoy the flavor of dairy cheese without all the associated nastiness.
